A little thing for a show here in Melbourne as part of the fringe festival. The theme is 'Ugly, Drunk and Stupid. I REALLY stretched it this time.

There is this weird little internet meme going around at the moment that on the 14th of October 2008, a 2000 mile wide spacecraft is going to show up and display itself for all the world to see as some sort of 'first contact in view of getting us out of this mess we're in' kind of scenario.

Other people are concerned on the off chance it does occur, that it would actually be Earth based super-technology, utilized in a manner to somehow install a new paradigm with which to pursue a furtherance of control, lack of freedoms etc...

Then again, the odds of nothing happening at all are also pretty good! ;)

It's all based on a message 'channeled' by an Australian called Blossom Goodchild (I think) and you can see a million clips of it on Youtube if you type in "October 14th UFO."

I thought it was interesting because usually prophetic statements are a little less specific. This woman has books to sell, and is taking a big gamble on a statement like that. On the other hand she might be more interested in the short term interest it might generate in her work...

Anyway, I thought of another scenario that (I think) would be extremely unsettling on a global scale, and very depressing!

The Visit by ~timmolloy. "Ever wondered what would happen if aliens did visit Earth? ~timmolloy takes an unusual spin on this age old question, using bold black/white panels and a well written, gritty script. " I would add that this isn't this deviant's most interesting work – make sure to visit his gallery for an outstanding surreal comic world. (Suggested by `Iscariot-Priest and Featured by ^Cedarseed)

This is just brilliant!

this is a nice work Tim-

I think about alien's a lot and this is one definite scenario I could imagine. Often I want aliens to come, thinking in my naivety that it would cause us to re-think our way of life. But it would probably go down more like this - standstill.

This is an extremely powerful and thoughtful commentary, and does a great job of addressing some things that perhaps should be thought about more often. The writing hits with such precision at the core of man's ego, that I had to sit back from my monitor and think for a while before deciding how I felt about it. Extremely well done.

My will is broken it's the end of all my dreams
My soul yearns for the valley of the queens..

Capitalism and religion kill the animals, individuals and society. They can kill you in a variety of ways, slow or quick. There can be no happiness or peace on this planet, no prosperity for the masses, as long as this slavery continues.
:iconpatronise:
Wicked idea - and something far more explicit than your usual work. Though I'm not sure you get away with the second last panel being just full of text.

Perfect on every level.
